A CLIMACTIC CONCLUSION
But as we ‘go by the Book’ we find it doesn’t end with the stories of Jesus. It continues with the forming of a New Covenant people. Within the synagogues, Jewish believers in Jesus gathered, prayed, and preached, when suddenly the goyim began to hear this Gospel of Ezekiel about a New Birth. And it started to happen to them too!
Now the whole world was hearing of the God of Israel and His salvation – the very thing that the Jewish people were praying for in David’s day. (Psalm 67!)
And so it would be that One Day every knee would bow and every tongue confess that Jesus, the Christ / Messiah, is LORD. And you may bend the knee now in faith, or can bend the knee then, by force! The concluding pages of that Book are stunning.
The final book of Revelation, with strange apocalyptic scenes, nonetheless has a simple ending. God wins! The promise given in the Garden concerning the One who would crush the Enemy, now comes to fulfillment, in a New Garden City of God. It is called the New Jerusalem, the Holy City of the Holy People of God, Jew and Gentile comprised of those who have trusted in the finished work of Messiah.
Revelation 21:1-4
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’
